A Raga's Journey - Wake up to Valaji

Film Songs in Raga Valaji:

  1. Charulatha's exposition is truly inspiring on this beautiful raga valachi...Besides being the jenya of Chakaravham, the fact that some of the meals's notes are missing, gives the raga the nuances and ability to a jumping scale- givings its beauty and ability to evoke pathos and nostalgia. By the way, the song from Maraka Mudiyuma is actually, "vasantha kalam varumo, nilai marumo", and the phrases that Charulata mentions are extremely fitting. Although the movie was tragic, the particular song invokes "pathos"- a kind of longing and wishing for betterment. Yet another song is PBS-Janaki, - "Thennankeetru Oonjalile.." from Paadhai Theriyudhu Paar -is extremely pleasing with effervescent lyrics...
