Namaste:
ReplyDeleteI eagerly listened to your Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaaru 2013 Concert Audio and Video excerpts.
The slokam in the beginning - Srirangamangalanidhim - is interesting to hear in your voice.
It is the slokam that we recite at the end of Sandhyavandanam according to our Srivaishnava sampradayam.
Just a question - who did you learn it from?
I am reading about MSS also. I learned Srinivasa Rao, your guru, taught MSS also. A nice coincidence.
Sri Rangasayi in Kamboji was quite good. I have listened to this song earlier by Priya Sisters or MSS.
I could compare mental notes. The renditions are quite comparable. I have listened to a Tamil Kamboji you mentioned sung in full by Sri Sivar. I guess it is on Chitambram Natarajar by Gopalakrishna Barathi.
I have a better understanding of Kamboji now.
Regards again,
Rajan

Dear Ms.Charulatha Mani,
Your rendering of the kriti,"Rangapura Vihara" in the raga,'Brindavani Sarang'(and not
'Brindavana Saranga') was very good. The gamakas, the sangatis were all very beautiful. But in
the starting viruttham stotra/sloka,"SriRanga Mangala Nidhim Karunanivasam",the lyrics next
should be "Sri Hastishaila shikharojwala parijatham".So also the second line in 'anupaallavi',
"Shyamalanga vidanga thuranga sadayapanga satsanga" should be sung twice.
I was reminded of MSS's recording of this kriti, which used to be very popular in 60's &
70's.Her rendering used to be very melodious and with bhava.
With regards
Santhanam
Dear Friend CLM,
ReplyDeleteI happened to read your comments on a Youtube Video of old tamizh song Maalai Pozhuthin Mayakkathilae and your mention that it is based on the Raaga Chandrakounz. The song which I like very much has also impressed a Carnatic Singer and I am happy.
Please listen to the song "Thendral Vandhu Veesaadho" from the movie Sivagangai Seemai (1959) and tell me on what raaga it is based. The song is sung by G. Varalakshmi.
Thanking You,
Yours Truly,
Sankar.
