Isai Payanam Concert #14 - BVB Chennai

The Isai Payanam journey for me has been a very memorable and exciting one. Unraveling the beauties and demystifying ragas in Classical and Film Music has helped me gain insight into both systems as a rasika, as a critic, as well as mould myself as a performer who can handle all genres of music. I am able to delve deep into ragas one at a time, and this unhurried thorough approach has made me a more mature and wholesome musician.

In this edition of Isai Payanam, the fourteenth of the series I presented ragas Atana, Hamsanandi, Bhairavi and Desh, their striking features, classical and semi-classical pieces in them as well as well-loved film songs (Tamil and Hindi) that feature in them.

The turn-out as usual was huge, including some standees, and all of us had a great time. I love my audience who come with such enthusiasm for my Isai Payanam concerts and cruise with me. Their appreciation and spontaneous participation spurs me to set higher standards for myself and this show.

You shall soon see a commercial release of this concert in DVD format at music outlets.

I once again realised that evening the importance of one mantra that has always come back to me in moments of intense artistic emotion -Music is always greater that the musician!...To be an instrument in the hands of art is indeed a gift from above.

  3. Hello Charulatha Mani,
This is my first time in your blog. I happened to listen to some interview of yours where you were talking about Ahir Bhairavi.

You said, ahir bharaivi paadina saapdau kedakkathu. I have heard that Ahir bharavi paadina pasi theriyadhu. This i heard form a well established , very successful senior musician. There is a lot of difference in this .

    Can you clarify ?

    - Thanks

  4. In that interview I have stated about the raga AHIRI, and not Ahir Bhairav. These two are very different ragas. The saappadu matter is related only to AHIRI. This is what I have talked about in the interview....

  5. Dear Charulathamani,

Hope you are well and in good health!
Congratulation on your new ventures - Isai and Nadagam (Cinema).

Unfortunately, this BIG FM is not streaming to web listeners. So, we rely on you posting it elsewhere. I have tried Chennai one and not in the program list . Is this part of Sangeethas Cinema Cinema programme. Is there a different url for big fm 92.7 Tamil?

Can you put a note to say you are away or on holiday etc, when you stop blogging for long period please. This will save us clicking in and out of the site.

    Best Regards
    Ken Skanda

  7. Hello Mam,
First of all, I am pretty happy to write a word to you since I have been listening to your music since long back, and I thought of sharing you how value your voice is! Yes mam, first I like the voice which is pretty unique and honeyed. I usually listen Balamurali sir, Sheshu sir, and Mandolin and apart from that I only listen to your music in all female singers. I always listen your Charukesi and Nalinakanthi, Charukesi is my favorite and you gave it at your best of all other musicians. Thanks a lot for that. I actually thought to write to you only after listening 'En Uchi Mandaila' song Mam.... How mam... how its possible , I did not expect this from your voice, what a different and what a range, really really great .. I thought of shariing a lot since I tried sending you these for a long time and I am bit poor to use internet even I am working in IT . Thanks Mam for all your voice and way of singing, please kee up this for us. I really say that your voice is kind of doing yogo for me to have my mind with peace . thanks for that. if you find time please write to me. Thanks again for your "Mellifluous Voice"
    Regards, Bala
