Isai Payanam @ Melbourne, June 6th 2010

Dear friends,

It was a lovely day, a little rain, sunshine, and single digit temperatures at Melbourne, Australia.
My Isai Payanam concert started at 4:30 pm at the Performing Arts Centre, Rowville. The hall is a beauty, with fine sound, good acoustic design and panelling.
The hall was filled to its capacity of 500, and there were standees too. This was a fund raiser for the Vakrathunda Vinayagar Temple, Basin. Responsive, alert audience they were, with a huge appetite for music. Several ragas were lapped up, Classical pieces, devotionals, film songs etc. were sung by me, and I was enjoying myself too. Accompanying me on stage were Nagaraj Iyer on the Violin, and Yogaraja Kandasamy, a leading mridangist in Australia, and a very talented young keyboardist, and morsing player, as well as Kannan on the tabla.

The Indian Arts Association had arranged me a series of radio and TV interviews, promos, and had printed lovely brochures indicating program sequence, profiles of artistes etc. tastefully done. Mr Raj Nagarajan, President of the temple proposed the vote of thanks and the CD/DVD sales were awesome. We ran out of copies, but then we always do. Thank you dear rasikas for making me a happy artiste!!!

  1. I listened to you for the first time, during your concert in Melbourne. I was very impressed by your dedication and humbleness. You are not only bridging the film music lovers and the more traditional music lovers, but also expressing the sweetness of the Tamil lyrics in a melodious manner which enhances their effect to the listener. This is all the more appreciated by Tamils living away from the Tamil speaking world. We were also impressed from the fact that you sang all your songs from your heart without any notes and this made it more meaningful. May Lord Murugan bless you with many more fruitful years of signing and help you achive all your goals in life.

    Regards,
    Raviskanthan, Melbourne

  3. This is the first time I am visiting your blog. I happened to see the video clip of Hari Giri Assembly, interviewed by those perverted comedians Bhaski and co. After watching couple of their programmes many years ago, I stopped watching their programme. I am shocked to see you there in that programme. You should have refused to participate or at least have not posted that clip in this blog. You have a set of fans who have high esteem towards you and wonder at your knowledge, talent. You are a child prodigy, sang carnatic song at the age of 4 and giving concert at the age 11. It really hurts to see a blessed artist like you answering lunatic and perverted questions by those guys.

  5. Hi Charulatha

It is better late than never. First time I was listening to your wonderful music at the Melbourne concert on 6 June 2010. I came to this concert after listening to your interview on Inpa Tamil Oli radio.

Today I happen to find your blogs. Your selections on this site were excellent.

Your talents in combining the great classical music with the cinema songs makes everyone interested in the music.

You have been blessed with great voice and lots of energy that allows you to sing effortlessly. Your pronunciation of the lyrics was very worthy of appreciation too.

Looking forward to listening to your concert again in Melbourne soon.

    Regards
    Ari
