Music Workshop

Cyberian music lovers, I am very happy to announce that I have founded the "Isai Payanam Trust" to promote music among all those who have the slightest interest in it!
Right now I'm gearing up for the workshop "Isai Payanam Trust" is conducting. It is for children from ages 8 to 12 and teens from 13 to 17 and includes classical and film singing, differences in modulations for various styles of music, voice culture tips, diction and pronunciation, and celebrity guest lectures as well. It is to be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mini Hall on the 1st and 2nd of Aug. Interested persons may register by calling 24412744 or 98410-88141. Nice to share tips with kids...hope they benefit from it. We performers have to certainly tune into the frequencies of the new-gen so that we don't get left behind and at the same share with them many beautiful things about music that we may have had the opportunity to seek out and learn. That's all for now...

  1. Hi,

This is Sherine. I was looking for the raga for the song "Maruthani Maruthani Vizhyil aen" song from "Sakkarakatti" music by A.R. Rehman. Then I came to know about your program "Isai Payanam".
I watched all your episodes on online, because I'm here in US. It's really wonderful. The way you are presenting the raaga, wow it's amazing.

    Thank You,
    Sherine.

  2. I was watching your isaipayanam. Nice programme. Thanks. I have a doubt regarding graha bhedam. If a song is identified as Mohanam and if we change the tonic note( shadjam) we can get Hindolam, sudha saveri , madhyamavati, sudha dhyanasi. So how do we distinguish between these ragas? i.e I can think one note as shadjam where as that may be an another note for somebody.

  3. You are doing a fabulous service to music by relating famous film songs to Ragas. By doing this you are creating an incredible interest in music for every one including people who may not be inclined ragawise.

I thoroughly enjoy all your Isai Payanams.

    Thank you again

  4. Dear Charulatha:

I'm on your mailing list, and was very happy to receive your UTube selections.
I listened to all the selections therein and enjoyed the presentations.

Frankly, while I'm a Carnatic music aficionado, I don't know a thing about Film songs. In the whole selection, the only song I knew was the Sindhubhairavi movie song, "Poomaalai.."

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I wasn't turned off by the film songs. I'm inclined to believe that the new cultural Renaissance of so many of you youngsters interested in Carnatic music is a by-product
of such classical music based film songs.

wish you all the best for continued
    success!
    Sincerely,
    Mala
